Not Charity, But Dignity: Supporting Rajpal Yadav in Tough Times

It’s been over ten years that actor and comedian Rajpal Yadav has been dealing with legal and money problems. The guy from ‘Phir Hera Pheri’ turned himself in to the Tihar Jail folks after the Delhi High Court said no to giving him more time on his conviction for bouncing checks. While Rajpal Yadav is still going through a rough patch, Sonu Sood has stepped up to help him out and has publicly shown his support for the experienced comedian.

As a sign of solidarity, Sonu Sood has now offered Rajpal a movie role, along with a “small signing amount.” Sonu Sood made it clear that this isn’t charity, but more of a professional helping hand.

Sonu Sood, calling Rajpal Yadav a ‘gifted actor’, mentioned that Yadav has contributed years of memorable work to the film industry and confirmed his involvement in Sood’s upcoming movie. He also urged the Hindi film industry to look out for each other during tough periods.

Sonu Sood say in X handle, Rajpal Yadav is a gifted actor who has given years of unforgettable work to our industry. Sometimes life turns unfair, not because of talent, but because timing can be brutal. He will be part of my film, and I believe this is the moment for all of us..producers, directors, colleagues to stand together.

A small signing amount, adjustable against future work, is not charity, it’s dignity. When one of our own is going through a tough phase, the industry must remind him he’s not alone. This is how we show we are more than just an industry.

So, Rajpal Yadav is pretty deep into this legal fight that kicked off way back in 2010. Apparently, he took out a 5 crore rupee loan from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to fund his movie, “Ata Pata Laapata.” When the movie didn’t do well at the theaters, Yadav apparently hit some money trouble, making it tough to pay back the loan. It’s said that a bunch of checks he wrote to pay off the debt bounced, which led to this lawsuit under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

Back in April 2018, a magistrate’s court found Yadav and his wife guilty according to Section 138 of the Act and gave them a six-month jail sentence. Even though they tried appealing many times and even paid back some of the money, with about ₹75 lakh going towards it in 2025, the amount they still owed somehow grew to close to ₹9 crore over time.

Rajpal Yadav’s Net Worth

So, from what I’ve heard, Rajpal Yadav is worth around 50 crore rupees, though some folks reckon it’s more like 80 to 85 crore. Apparently, he usually asks for 2 to 3 crore rupees for each movie.
